With this 3rd developmental stage I added an underlying ambient sample and an excellent guitar riff. With these additions this track is really beginning to take shape. This here is our proper December 2007 release... a bit late. It's a terrific collection of 10 net audio gems that explores the acoustic side of sound in varying degrees. Some tracks are purely acoustic, while others merge the digital with the acoustic. When you're done with this, be sure to leave a review and then head over to blocSonic for more surprises! Peace Mike Gregoire Owner/Creator blocSonic.com Topics: rock, electronic, country, alt country, reggae, dub, pop, hip-hop
Since 2007 we’ve been giving you these fantastic collections of netaudio in hopes that it introduces you to a new world of music that’s available on the web. This time around is no different… except in one way. It’s quite literally the first time that the final line-up is the same as the first one chosen. No replacements were needed for artists and/or labels who didn’t get back to me or weren’t able to participate. Included are 12 fantastic tracks plus one bonus goodie included in... favoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 1 reviews ) Topics: blocsonic, netbloc, hip-hop, rock, pop, indie-pop, electro-pop, trip-hop, experimental

That’s right, the series returns with “netBloc Vol. 48: Still…” ! Can you believe it? Last week I was listening to a podcast interview at the FMA and heard the interviewee mention blocSonic and how she used to love our netBloc series and it was too bad that we weren’t releasing those anymore. Wow! Has it really been that long since we released one of our tasty and eclectic compilations? Yeah, it most definitely has. We last released one all the way back in October of 2014, when we... Here’s another fresh netBloc release for you to soak in. As always… it was a challenge to pull together and it underwent a serious overhaul when it became clear that an artist and a label weren’t as serious about the release as I was. Finally, when all is said and done… this release is 1000% better because of the replacement tracks and new play order. Thanks to you artists who were contacted at the last minute and came through with the required info and assets! After taking a much needed month off from releasing, we’re back with another fresh batch of netaudio gems. Even with the month off, it was a bit of a bumpy ride pulling this together. During the process of attempting to acquire permissions and assets, we were unable to finalize on four original tracks and went through two rounds of changes. As is always the case though, this process ends up being beneficial for the release — since the line-up/track order is always scrutinized repeatedly... favoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 1 reviews ) Topics: rock, pop, electronic, trip-hop, hip-hop, metal
If you didn’t pick up on the not so subtle hint of repurposing the RIAA logo for the cover art and the title “AAIR Attack”, I still have something to say about the sad state of the music industry. It’s now going on 14 years since Napster was launched and the mainstream music industry is still struggling with how to deal with “file-sharing”. It seems that with every new innovation that helps artists/labels promote music online, the mainstream industry goes out of its way to shut it... Topics: blocsonic, netbloc, flac, mp3, ogg

Here we are with volume 44 of the extensive netBloc compilation series that I first launched in 2007. Back then, the majority of the Creative Commons licensed music I found was via netlabels . Today, things are shifting. Although netlabels still play a major roll, there’s an uptick in artists releasing their CC music independently via bandcamp. There are also well-known artists flirting with CC licensing. A few years ago, it was Saul Williams and Nine Inch Nails. Now, as this compilation can... Topics: blocsonic, netbloc, mp3, ogg, flac
It all started sometime last year with a friend of mine, Rob Pitt , saying that he’d love it if there were a “minimal” netBloc release. However, with the netBloc series being about variety, I felt that I couldn’t release something so narrowly focused on one sub-genre. If I were to put together something remotely like that, it had to be something more varied. I decided to begin slowly pulling together instrumental netaudio gems as I came across them while developing other netBloc... Back in February, Joey Ripps approached me about releasing one of his projects through blocSonic. One of the projects, a collaboration with 13aDLucK produced by Catastrophe, turned out to be quite a strong set. After hearing the drafts Ripps sent, blocSonic was officially down for a release! Whenever I begin the process of listening for a netBloc release, I have to wade through such a large amount of not so awesome music. While doing so, when I do find gems, it immediately changes my mood and makes the task of finding more great music, that much easier. Once I’ve got about 30 or so gems, I know that I’ve got some great music for the next volume, but what’s still unclear is which songs will ultimately make the cut, how well they’ll flow together and which ones I’ll have to... Love of music is what the netBloc series is about. It’s not about hatred of the mainstream music industry; even though it may seem so sometimes (no matter how much I am against everything that the music industry represents these days). The fact of the matter is that there are artists; worldwide; who aren’t being heard because they don’t fit into some generic compartment that the current music industry has deemed economically viable. The industry has completely lost sight of the art. As... Topics: blocsonic, netbloc, creative commons, free, music, downloads, flac, mp3, ogg, fabrizio paterlini,...
As the internet has increasingly become part of all our lives, an intellectual shift has been occurring. As this shift progresses, more of us are seeing the need for less limitations in many areas. In the early years of this shift, an “open-source” software movement took hold and hasn’t abated. Further along, this idea of “open” content expanded to all types of media — visual, sonic, textual… you name it… Creative Commons licensing filled the need and continues to grow in... What up y'all... fresh from my hard drive, here's the 4th and final installment of the premier OSNAP track. I went through the vocals and fixed the timing problems which I previously mentioned. I also updated the effects a bit. Tweaked a bit here, tweaked a bit there and added a sample from a public domain educational film found at archive.org. You owe it to yourself to hear what the world of music is doing outside of the confines of the mainstream. It’s been years since Shawn Franklin & I first discussed me remixing a couple tracks from The Scallions’ “Agony Through Ceremony” . This was a release that I hoped to have ready in time for the holidays and was to be a holiday gift. Things didn’t fall into place as quickly as I had originally hoped, so here you have it now, a couple months late. What you’ll find with this one is a “concept” album. At least a concept in as much as a compilation can be a concept. There’s an overlying theme... that of the Moon. There’s a loosely tied narrative that is held together through the use of public domain texts, video and... favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 2 reviews ) Topics: rock, electronic, pop, indie
After a shocking nine months since the last netBloc release , I’m very happy to say that we return today with Volume 46 of the series with “#returnofthenetlboc” ! With Volume 45 of the excellent netBloc series , I wanted to pay homage to my childhood home at 45 Old Orchard Ave, where my lifelong love of music first developed. Growing up there, music figured large in my life. My earliest memories recall certain songs played in the home stereo that, to this day, remain some of my favorite music. According to Chinese philosophy two opposing forces, the yin and the yang, co-exist interdependently to make up universal existence. You cannot have one without the other. So it seems in many aspects of life that you cannot have the good without the bad and vice-versa. Life, death, love, hate, peace, war all intermingled in equilibrium.
